The origin of whiskey?
Medieval alchemists stumbled upon the technique of distilling wine while they were alchemising, and gave the Latin name Aqua-vitae (Water of life) to the fiery flavor. As the technique of distillation spread across Europe, Aqua viate was translated into local languages, meaning distilled spirits. The water of life traveled across the seas to ancient Ireland, where ale was distilled to produce a strong alcoholic drink called Visge-beatha, which is believed to be the origin of whiskey and hence its name. All whiskies share the same characteristic: a subtle taste of tobacco. The most famous and representative whiskies are Scotch whiskey, Irish whiskey, American whiskey and Canadian whiskey. Classification of whiskey: Whiskey is malt or grain as raw materials, after saccharification, fermentation, distillation, and finally mature in oak barrels to make it amber, which is the most basic difference between whiskey and other distilled spirits.
